Mom gets real in Facebook post about why the anti-vaxxer movement is so dangerous for her daughter.

Also, if you’d rather make dead kids than have the possibility of your own kid become autistic you are garbage

Vaccinate. Your. Fucking. Children.

@takashi0

[text of picture for ease of reading]

I’ve been relatively quiet on social media about the “Anti-vax” movement. I’ve seen smart-ass memes saying “why would my unvaccinated kids be a threat to your vaccinated kids if you’re so sure they work?”

THIS is why. There are people who cannot have live vaccines, like my daughter, who had a kidney transplant when she was 2 years old. She got one varicella vaccine but couldn’t get the second because she was immunosuppressed and instead of developing immunity, she would have contracted the virus.

She was exposed to a child with chickenpox this weekend and now we are in the ER. She’s getting lab work, injections of immunoglobulin and then we have to wait to see what the infectious disease doctor says. The incubation period of chicken pox is 7-21 days. So even with all we are doing, she could still become sick in the next 3 weeks. And that would mean an automatic admission to the hospital for IV antiviral meds. She could become very, very sick from this.

Please, if you are someone who believes your child will get autism from vaccines, PLEASE educate yourself. There isn’t a single peer reviewed study that came to that conclusion. And the people choosing to skip vaccinations put children like my daughter at risk. She has been through SO much already. And this was avoidable.

Let me address the recurring questions:

I contacted her transplant nephrologist regarding her exposure, who in turn consulted with the infectious disease team at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta and their solid organ transplant PharmD. It was the team’s recommendation that I take Ashley to the ER to receive VZIG, which costs approx $5k and cannot be given outpatient.
titers were drawn prior to giving her VZIG
I never claimed that the child with chicken pox was not vaccinated. That is irrelevant. The resurgence of chicken pox, whooping cough, measles, and other diseases that were nearly eradicated years ago is a direct result of a larger percentage of the population deciding not to vaccinate their children without sound research to support that decision
as for those telling me to “educate myself,’ I am a pediatric RN with over 10 years’ experience in transplant and chronic illness populations. I have had extensive education regarding vaccinations. I would not post about something I was ignorant about.
Those saying “It’s just chicken pox, she won’t die,” please educate yourselves on transplant recipients. There are millions of people waiting for life saving organs. With those numbers, the odds are good that someone in your life has been affected by organ failure.

Good morning! I’m salty.

I think we, as a general community, need to start taking this little moment more seriously.

This, right here? This is asking for consent. It’s a legal necessity, yes, but it is also you, the reader, actively consenting to see adult content; and in doing so, saying that you are of an age to see it, and that you’re emotionally capable of handling it.

You find the content you find behind this warning disgusting, horrifying, upsetting, triggering? You consented. You said you could handle it, and you were able to back out at any time. You take responsibility for yourself when you click through this, and so long as the creator used warnings and tags correctly, you bear full responsibility for its impact on you.

“Children are going to lie about their age” is probably true, but that’s the problem of them and the people who are responsible for them, not the people that they lie to.

If you’re not prepared to see adult content, created by and for adults, don’t fucking click through this. And if you do, for all that’s holy, don’t blame anyone else for it.

I’m just going to point out here that this excerpt is in fact taken from a canonical published book in Star Wars and is not, in fact, Obikin fanfic. Although it could be, because any story that started with this except in a fanfic archive would have a 90% chance of these two rolling around in about a page. As it should. It’s really the logical conclusion of two insanely beautiful men who love each other as much as these two do. I mean:

Can you imagine Les Amis friend-haunting Marius and Cosette though

  • Like Marius first notices when something keeps knocking off his hats whenever he comes home, and eventually they figure out that’s Courfeyrac’s way of telling him he looks ridiculous
  • Combeferre hasn’t quite gotten the hang of moving corporeal things yet and so keeps accidentally knocking books off the shelf when he’s trying to read. Marius lays them open on the table so all he has to do is move the pages
  • They soon realise that various doors and windows are always open in the morning because Prouvaire likes to look at the stars at night but always forgets to shut them again
  • Feuilly is the easiest to spot when he finally moves in because seriously, what other ghost is genuinely going to think of paying rent? (Also where is he even getting that money what the hell Feuilly)
  • Bossuet is like the world’s politest accidental poltergeist because things are always going flying then apologetically floating on back to their rightful place
  • Joly’s ghost sneezes.
    No, really.
  • They’re not sure who keeps initiating those raucous dances to the tune of drinking songs at increasingly random hours, but they have their suspicions that Bahorel is heavily involved
  • Eventually Marius puts up a piece of chalkboard as a way to communicate with his friends, and they don’t know exactly how long Grantaire has been there but they realise he’s there as soon as they find a beautiful chalk portrait of Cosette signed with a somehow sarcastically elaborate ‘R’
  • Marius finds Enjolras one day when he’s talking politics and something starts breathing aggressively down the back of his neck
  • Bonus: supportive and caring Cosette who gives her husband the benefit of the doubt when he says they have ghosts despite very little initial proof, then seamlessly beginning to believe him as the evidence mounts. Because hey, if her mother became an angel and sent her another angel to care for her in her place, what’s to stop Marius’ friends returning to him?

love, simon does such a good job of showing that even when people think they’re being allies, there will always be those little comments and actions that remind us that they’re not completely on the same page as us. mr. worth is a big example of this, because despite the fact that he tries to offer support to simon for the entirety of the movie, he has those brief moments where it’s clear he just doesn’t get it. like when simon goes back to school after being outed, mr. worth feels the need to point out that he himself isn’t gay, and he also automatically assumes that simon and ethan are boyfriends just because both of them are gay. they’re little details, almost insignificant compared to the rest of the plot, but they do show that no matter how open-minded and accepting people are, that gap between us and them still clearly exists. it isn’t portrayed in some dramatic way, but it’s just obvious enough to shine a light on how ridiculous that behavior is, and that is what makes this movie so lovely and important.

The true tragedy of Obi-Wan Kenobi’s life:  HE WON’T HAVE TO KEEP ANAKIN ON A KID LEASH FOR AT LEAST THREE ENTIRE DAYS AND YET, BECAUSE THIS IS ANAKIN AND HIS APPRENTICE IS GOING TO FUCK THIS UP, OBI-WAN STILL CAN’T GET A DECENT NAP.  Do you know how much that irony burns?  He has peace and quiet!  For three entire days!!  AND HE CAN’T EVEN ENJOY IT.

Obi-Wan Kenobi:  Deserves A Real Nap, Is Not Going To Get It, THANKS, ANAKIN

But how can we blame Anakin?  LOOK AT THAT FACE.  The way his eyes follow Obi-Wan’s face, he says he wants more independence, but honestly that is the face of someone who just wants Obi-Wan to take care of him and clean up his messes and tell him his hair looks nice and his eyes are very, very blue.

I’ve always really liked something about this little interaction - partly because it’s the most significant exchange between courf and jehan in the book and it sets up their friendship in a very simple but sweet way (they whisper sassy comments to each other at meetings!) but also because of the different ways it could be interpreted?

I mean, courf is very clearly making a little amused dig at marius here (context: marius the deeply anxious hermit has suddenly become marius the gregarious who pays for everyone’s dinner and enthusiastically joins in at meetings, because he’s in love) but ‘responded’ is such a vague dialogue tag! is jehan joking back, ie, “lmao yeah he’s got it bad”? or does he ignore the joke and reply very solemnly, ie, “that’s not weird courfeyrac it’s LOVE which is a very serious matter!”? I like to think it’s somewhere in the middle - jehan is also very amused by marius’ behaviour but he lightly reprimands courf for being a bit mean because this is Love and Love Is Important -
